Off the Shelf – Akira

Akira (film)

Akira is a classic Japanese animation movie that explores the usual themes of futurism expected by these movies. The movie has been out for a long time now but has not aged too much but may seem a little over dramatic.

Akira came out in 1988 and has enjoyed cult status ever since. It takes the Tokyo biker gangs and places them into a strange future where a secret project is discovered by accident.

The action and scenery (artwork) is amazing and enjoyable and it is a perfect sci-fi animation. The motorbikes are very cool and I won’t ruin the plot but it is not too complicated but interesting enough to keep you watching.

I give this a slightly dusty Off the Shelf rating! You won’t watch this all the time but it is good to get off the shelf ever so often, usually with a Anime marathon!
