Downfall covers the fall of the thrid reich under Hitler during World War two and was made famous by its use on Youtube for many parody videos. The joke revolved around a scene where Hitler was very angry about what his generals are telling him and people were replacing the subtitles to be about any subject that makes them mad.

Back to the movie. Downfall is a very dark but well produced film that gives you a better insight into what was happening at the end of World War two in Berlin. It does not exactly demonise nor make heroes of the Nazis but shwos them falling apart particularly after their god like leader kills himself.

It is an interesting study into history and the human condition as previously isolated Berliners are exposed to the full onslaught and end of the war. The film by Oliver Hirschbiegel may be in German but it is very accessible to english speaking people with subtitles.

Not Dusty Rating – An interesting yet dark exploration of the end of Nazi Germany.
