It has been a long time that Jason Vorhees has been scaring the living daylights out of audiences with his hockey mask and machete. Strangely enough, he was not the scary perpetrator in the original flick that gives credence to the theory of six degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon.
Kevin Bacon had one of his first ‘big roles’ in this movie playing a supporting role of a horny boyfriend, but we all know what happens to promiscuous teens in horror films – you guessed it, killed early on. It is a worthy kill though with Mr Bacon getting an arrow shoved through his throat while trying to shove something into his girlfriend… (innuendo provided).
The movie may seem a little dated now but it is still a classic and worth a watch. It is one of my personal favourite horror films and it does mark the beginning of the Friday the 13th franchise as well as the birth of Jason Vorhees (rebirth?). The entire series is worth a watch especially the ridiculously special Jason Takes Manhattan complete with a boat ride to New York.
While you won’t watch this all the time it is certainly better than some of the attempted modern remakes and is classic in the horror genre. Grab some popcorn invite some friends and even make a drinking game out of it! What horror movies used to be like!
